Meet Dr. Blackburn

Hello!

My name is Nathon Blackburn. I own Kobuk Family Dental, LLC. Kobuk is an Iñupiaq word that means Big River. It’s significant in that it pays homage to Alaska, to my Alaska Native heritage, and to a family sled dog from my youth.

I was born in Fairbanks Alaska and raised on the shores of Lake Minchumina. Minchumina is seven miles from the geographic center of Alaska and 70 miles north of Denali. I was blessed with a true frontier upbringing. We traveled by dog sled, lived with no electricity or running water and experienced the joys of outdoor plumbing! I would not trade my childhood for anything. Growing up in remote Alaska brings an appreciation on how connected and dependent we are on each other in this great state.

I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences. I completed my dental education at A. T. Still University Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health where I spent four years earning my Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry and a Certificate in Public Health. After dental school I completed a two year Advanced General Practice Residency at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

I am married to my best friend, Molly. Together we are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters. As a family we enjoy movies, biking, hiking, fishing, swimming… basically anything outdoors. The girls and I enjoy harvesting fish, moose and berries off the land, and love findings different ways to prepare, preserve and eat our harvest.

I truly enjoy practicing dentistry for how it can improve the lives of others. A wise man once told me to use the gifts we were given to help the lives of others, and to enjoy what you do for a living. I am truly fortunate to do both in dentistry.
